Image sensor life on an Olympus Evolt E-500?
I have had my Olympus Evolt E-500 for about 2 1/2 years. I know I average about 200 to 300 pictures a month, and as I start doing more Events or weddings, I know I would average that just in one day! Problem is, I am worried about my sensor. The last Event I was at, there was missing pixels. Four in a perfect square! I did the pixel mapping and it went away. I know it wasn't on my lens because I went back in forth between the two lens and I checked my sensor and it is spotless. I hate to know that I am missing pixels, even though it can figure out what color it should be. How much should I expect from an entry level camera with the sensor life? How is Olympus track record with their sensor vrs other brands like Nikon & Canon?
Dead pixels appear from time to time. The possibility of someone with a Canon or Nikon DSLR getting one is pretty much the same as a person with any other brand of DSLR. Four after 2 1/2 years is nothing to be worried about. Don't be too worried about it. Think about it this way: you have 7,999,996 good pixels left!
I got one on my DSLR straight out of the box and two on my P&S. Feel relieved that Oly offers pixel mapping; older cameras needed to be sent in for the same service. I don't even think you've shot enough to be worried about shutter life.
